Please help if you can understand my Question- won't be so long winded this time-promise.

I know from reading MANY threads and posts that thee are come protein shakes us RNYers are unable to absorb. So it is like not drinking them anyway, therefore TOTAL waste of money. I know those shots made with the collagen (?) are one of the no use- no absorb. I LOVE the Lean Shake 25 meal replacement in the Orange Crème flavor. But even using it at 1 scoop per 6 ounces of Unsweet Vanilla Almond milk gets both expensive and hard to find that 1 flavor I love (not just barely tolerate) to take my many "take with food" meds since surgery this past July. I have found after much looking up on search engines, another orange that is also sold in the store (I do NOT online shop) called MusclePharm Combat But it is a blend of different types. I did not see the Collagen among them. Does anyone know anything about this MusclePharm Combat protein shake mix for us with RNY. Would it be worth me buying a can when the store is out of my usual kind? Would my body be able to absorb the protein the way they have it in the BLEND. I cannot make sense of the label and how it would work with the rearranged body. I would appreciate answers from anyone who understands these things. I literally cannot handle the shakes that are commonly recommended for us. Please help if you can.

My literature says the optimal protein powder to use is 100% WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE. Sorry, I know nothing about MusclePharmCombat; the name alone would make me pass on it.

That is a blend of Whey proteins, not all isolate, and the whey concentrate comes first... so I would keep on looking.

A high quality protein powder that has an Orange flavor is Jay Robb Tropical Dreamsicle. You can buy Jay Robb from Vitamin Shoppe and GNC. Not sure if you would have to order that flavor online. The good thing is you can return(GNC) or return for credit (Vitamin shoppe) an opened bag if you don't like the flavor.

Thank you all for the replies. I had such a hard time finding a shake I could tolerate and it is so often not here when my family makes the hour drive to the closest store. I am Deaf so I cannot simply make a call to see when they do have my kind in. I will keep searching.

And a big thank you for letting me in on another option to look into. I will definitely give it a look and just maybe the search will be over.

Thanks again, everyone.

If you are on a budget, an option that I have used is to buy ONE type such as Syntax Nectar Vanilla Bean -- and then use something like Milk Splash to make different flavors ... I use the orange, strawberry, pina colada or banana milk splash all the time in a vanilla shake to create different flavors without having to buy several different protein powders. I use the chocolate in my coffee, too. You can find it at any large grocery store, Target, Walmart, etc. milk splash link Also, I order my Nectar (it's my favorite protein powder) via VitaminShoppe.com. Shipping on orders over $25 is free.

Body Fortress makes a whey isolate protein powder that you can get at Walmart for under $20. I get the vanilla creme flavor and add Orange Crush Water Enhancer. It tastes like a Dreamsicle. The water enhancer is very concentrated and you only need to use a little bit. They have a Strawberry Crush too!

Try the Syntrax Nectars; they will ship you a sample pack of about 13 flavors, which mix with either milk or water, and they are all pretty tasty.

They have a website for making the order.

Thank you others for responding. I would love to try some of those flavors I have seen trying to search orange powders up. But most all are sold online, and I cannot buy things online. I live in a small town, and have to drive an hour to the closest GNC to get the powder I use now. I had used the ones from my local Walmart for a while. I could tolerate the chocolate and the vanilla for several months after my RNY, then suddenly Taz (my pouch) decided to get even pickier. It had already refused the massive amount I had gotten from Sam's club of the premier. Those my NUT suggested to stock up on before actually having RNY so they would already be in the home. Before surgery could barely tolerate, afterwards, they made me SO sick. Taz has done that with most all I have tried. I do have a Lean Shake 25 vanilla I may try with the orange enhancer. I have thought about if I could find a sugar free Torani or Davinci syrup in one of the stores I go through. But the selection of sugar free is limited, to say the least. Thanks again for the suggestions everyone.

I'm reading that you had WLS for a few months? Not transitioning to soups and soft foods yet? Bariatric needs are specific.

Extreme calorie restrictions can make cravings come extremely and more issues from stalls to no losses. Your body will fight you for every pound with too little food.

I am trying to follow your writing.... if you have not had WLS yet, be very cautious on shopping for stuff pre-op since your taste buds will not react the same post-op. Stuff that tastes good now will more possibly be something you will not like or even tolerate.

If you cannot find what you are looking in your local stores, there's always online shopping.

Hope this helps.
